Latest version is 4.0 - Universal Binary!
Supports MetaGeek WiSpy 2.4x and Original WiSpy!

EaKiu is a Wireless Spectrum Analyzer for OSX (Universal Binary), built to work with the MetaGeek Wi-Spytm series of wireless USB hardware device (visit www.metageek.net).

This currently includes both the Original WiSpy as well as the new WiSpy 2.4x.

EaKiu offers a number of views of the wireless spectrum including LINEAR, 3D Spectrum, and 3D Interactive graphs. Recording is supported as well as playback of MetaGeek style CSV file formats.

EaKiu also offers wireless neighborhood sniffing (via Airport) and remote server/client modes for sniffing wireless remotely.

PRONOUNCING IT
The program name EaKiu is a conjunction of two Hawaiian words. The first is the word Ea which has a meaning of 'Air', and the second is Kiu which has the meaning of 'Spy'. An approximation of how to say this word in English would be 'eh-ah key-uu' (with the 'uu' sounding like the English 'oo' of 'moo' or 'boo').

VERSION 4.0 CHANGES

This section outlines the changes between the previous version of EaKiu and version 4.0.

  • Even though EaKiu 4.0 appears visually similar to previous versions, this version is nearly a full rewrite of the code-level and provides quite a different functional layout from previous versions.
  • Version 4.0 now supports MULTIPLE CONCURRENT devices. All the devices (USB, CSV, TCP, and SIN) are now fully concurrent and can run simultaneously.
  • Version 4.0 supports the entire family of Metageek WiSpy devices including the original WiSpy and the new WiSpy 2.4x
  • This version can support any number of Metageek devices simultaneously. That is, you can plug multiple WiSpy devices and each one can be viewed and controlled independently.
  • The 2D view now has little blue triangles near the bottom of the chart. These represent the BLUETOOTH frequencies and can be useful in diagnosing bluetooth device problems.
  • CSV recording is now independent for each device. This means that each device can be recording their own CSV files at the same time. Note that CSV files created in older version of EaKiu are no longer compatible with this version without first adding a header to the file.
  • Each device now have their own independent multi-threaded server. A independent port (starting at 2400) is assigned to each device. Note that the format of the SERVER OUTPUT differs from previous versions of EaKiu. Please consult the documentation for full information on the server format.
  • The playback rate of the TCP and CSV modes are now fixed to be identical to the recording rate (e.g., playback matches the original timing of the recording).
  • A number of keyboard commands and rate-change modes have been removed as they are no longer needed.
  • The 'w' key has been added to switch between multiple WiSpy devices.
  • The 's' key has been added to switch between all data sources (not just WiSpy devices).
  • SIN (sine wave) mode comes up by default but also defaults to be in PAUSE mode.
  • PAUSE mode is now independent for each device. When paused, no data is being recorded and no processing time is being taken by the system for that device.
  • When new WiSpy are plugged in, EaKiu will immediatly jump to displaying that device.
