      Effect:XY Ripple
      Category:Spatial Filters
      Speed:Fast

Description: The XY Ripple Effect is a Spatial Effect that only modifies the drawing coordinates to impart a ripple.

Most Effects in Pena use one of four coordinate systems:

      • Texture, Fit To Screen - This is used if you are using Effects that reference Textures, and you are not using the Fit To Brush option.
      • Texture, Fit To Brush - This is used if you are using Effects that reference Textures, and you are using the Fit To Brush option.
      • Drawing, Fit To Screen - This is used if you are not using an Effect that reference Textures, and you are not using the Fit To Brush option.
      • Drawing, Fit To Brush - This is used if you are are not using Effects that reference Textures, and you are using the Fit To Brush option.
Basically, it comes down to whether an Effect uses a Texture or not, and whether or not you are using the Fit To Brush option.

XY Ripple can impart a Ripple to any of the above coordinate systems. It just depends on which one you are using for a particular Effect.

XY Ripple affects everything below it that corresponds to the coordinate system you select in the XY Ripple Options. You place XY Ripple first, then any Effects you want to modify.

For example, if you have Slots in the following order:

      1. 2-Color Gradient
      2. XY Ripple
      3. 4-Color Gradient
      4. Brick Wall

Then 2-Color Gradient is not rippled, but 4-Color Gradient and Brick Wall are rippled.

Note that you can not ripple a solid color.

Also note that since XY Ripple affects the XY Coordinates, not the Color, it affects any Effects for both Color 1 and Color 2.

Options: The XY Ripple Effect has the following Options Pane:

Clock:This Effect can change over time. This control lets you select which of the four Clocks to use (Clocks are assigned in the Brush Pane). Any Green Colored Clock is the one currently in use. Tap the reset button and a Pop Up will appear that lets you reset any of the four Clocks to their initial value. Yellow colored clocks are not in use. Note that you can turn Clocks off by tapping a Green Clock turning all of them yellow.
Clock Modifier:This value is added to the current Clock. You can use this to change where in time this Effect is, relative to the Clock (this allows different Effects to use the same Clock with different offsets).
Ripple Amount:This value controls the number of ripples generated. Very low numbers produce very little distortion, higher values produce extensive ripple distortion.
Ripple Center:This value controls the center of the Ripple Effect.
Ripple Height:This value controls the height of the each Ripple wave. This is used together with Ripple Center to determine the strength (boldness) of the Ripple.
Texture Screen-Fit:If set to a Red X the regular Texture coordinates (non-Fit-To-Brush) are not rippled. When set to a Green Check Mark the regular Texture coordinates (non-Fit-To-Brush) are rippled. Use this for any Effect you want rippled that use Textures.
Drawing Screen-Fit:If set to a Red X the regular Non-Texture coordinates (non-Fit-To-Brush) are not rippled. When set to a Green Check Mark the regular Non-Texture coordinates (non-Fit-To-Brush) are rippled. Use this for any Effect you want rippled that does not use Textures.
Texture Brush-Fit:If set to a Red X the Fit-To-Brush Texture coordinates are not rippled. When set to a Green Check Mark the Fit-To-Brush Texture coordinates are rippled. Use this for any Effect you want rippled that use Textures and also Fit-To-Brush.
Drawing Brush-Fit:If set to a Red X the Fit-To-Brush Non-Texture coordinates are not rippled. When set to a Green Check Mark the Fit-To-Brush Non-Texture coordinates are rippled. Use this for any Effect you want rippled that does not use Textures but does use Fit-To-Brush.

Example: Our first image shows a XY Ripple in Slot 1 with Drawing Screen-Fit set to a Green Check Mark. In Slot 2 we have a Brick Wall Effect:

Next we have a a XY Ripple in Slot 1 with Drawing Screen-Fit set to a Green Check Mark. In Slot 2 we have a 4-Color Gradient Effect:

Here is the same setup as the last image with the 4-Color Gradient set to Fit-To-Brush and the XY Ripple set to Drawing Brush-Fit Effect. You can see how the ripple is now applied to the brush:

Finally we have a XY Ripple in Slot 1 with Texture Screen-Fit set to a Green Check Mark. In Slot 2 we have a Texture Effect loaded with our Arches National Park photo:
