      Effect:XY Twist
      Category:Spatial Filters
      Speed:Fast

Description: The XY Twist Effect is a Spatial Effect that only modifies the drawing coordinates to impart a twist.

Most Effects in Pena use one of four coordinate systems:

      • Texture, Fit To Screen - This is used if you are using Effects that reference Textures, and you are not using the Fit To Brush option.
      • Texture, Fit To Brush - This is used if you are using Effects that reference Textures, and you are using the Fit To Brush option.
      • Drawing, Fit To Screen - This is used if you are not using an Effect that reference Textures, and you are not using the Fit To Brush option.
      • Drawing, Fit To Brush - This is used if you are are not using Effects that reference Textures, and you are using the Fit To Brush option.
Basically, it comes down to whether an Effect uses a Texture or not, and whether or not you are using the Fit To Brush option.

XY Twist can impart a twist to any of the above coordinate systems. It just depends on which one you are using for a particular Effect.

XY Twist affects everything below it that corresponds to the coordinate system you select in the XY Twist Options. You place XY Twist first, then any Effects you want to modify.

For example, if you have Slots in the following order:

      1. 2-Color Gradient
      2. XY Rotate
      3. 4-Color Gradient
      4. Brick Wall

Then 2-Color Gradient is not twisted, but 4-Color Gradient and Brick Wall are twisted.

Note that since XY Twist affects the XY Coordinates, not the Color, it affects any Effects for both Color 1 and Color 2.

Options: The XY Twist Effect has the following Options Pane:

Center X:This specifies the X (horizontal) center of the twist on the Canvas or Brush. A value of 0.0 is the left side of the Canvas or Brush, 0.5 the center, and 1.0 the right side of the Canvas or Brush.
Center Y:This specifies the Y (vertical) center of the twist on the Canvas or Brush. A value of 0.0 is the bottom of the Canvas or Brush, 0.5 the center, and 1.0 the top of the Canvas or Brush.
Radius:This is how far out from the center the twist goes until it stops. Low values are very close to the center, large values move further away until it is the full Canvas or Brush size.
Twist:This is the amount of desired Twist. Low values add very little twist to the image, high values add more and more till you get full distortion. Positive values twist clockwise, negative values twist counter-clockwise.
Texture Screen-Fit:If set to a Red X the regular Texture coordinates (non-Fit-To-Brush) are not twisted. When set to a Green Check Mark the regular Texture coordinates (non-Fit-To-Brush) are twisted. Use this for any Effect you want twisted that use Textures.
Drawing Screen-Fit:If set to a Red X the regular Non-Texture coordinates (non-Fit-To-Brush) are not twisted. When set to a Green Check Mark the regular Non-Texture coordinates (non-Fit-To-Brush) are twisted. Use this for any Effect you want twisted that does not use Textures.
Texture Brush-Fit:If set to a Red X the Fit-To-Brush Texture coordinates are not twisted. When set to a Green Check Mark the Fit-To-Brush Texture coordinates are twisted. Use this for any Effect you want twisted that use Textures and also Fit-To-Brush.
Drawing Brush-Fit:If set to a Red X the Fit-To-Brush Non-Texture coordinates are not twisted. When set to a Green Check Mark the Fit-To-Brush Non-Texture coordinates are twisted. Use this for any Effect you want twisted that does not use Textures but does use Fit-To-Brush.

Example: In our first example we have XY Twist in Slot 1 and a Texture Effect in Slot 2 with a photo loaded:

Here is the same thing using a 4-Color Gradient in Slot 2:

In this image we have set the Fit To Brush option for the 4-Color Gradient:
